It’s About Drive, It’s About Power?

If you have not listened to this song, you have been living under a rock, or you don’t know rock (pun intended)

It has a catchy rhythm, with lyrics that go “It’s about Drive, It’s About Power…”, but wait..really?

It’s all about Drive and Power?

There has to be more to life than that, right?

Which comes to the question that what is to life?

Biologically the basic answer is pretty straightforward, having kids (replicate your genes) and stay alive ( you can be dramatic about it and say “survive”).

Hmm, so where do power and drive come into the picture you might ask?

In order to reproduce and survive, you need both.

Life is funny, you are basically in a game where you have to collect enough resources and be according to the social standards to survive and reproduce. With resources there comes the concept of Power. The more resources you have the more powerful you are, umm not necessarily, let me give you an example.

Example: Tom has 5 infinity stones, Sasha has 3 infinity stones, who is more powerful? The obvious answer would be Tom because he has 5 infinity stones, which would be correct only if he knows how to use them, If tom doesn’t know how to use them they are useless and Tom has no power compared to Sasha because she knows how to use the stones.

So resources aren’t enough, the knowledge to use them correctly also contributes to the concept of Power. I mean if Thanos didn’t know he had to snap to use them, he would have done god knows what to make them useful (clap maybe), the point being resources aren’t solely enough, you should also know how to use them.

And importantly power is always relative, you would have more or less power relative to others.

So there are many drives, like hunger, sex, etc. It’s a global standard. Every animal on the planet has it including us, And most of them have the concept of power as well. Drives direct our lives more or less, the chemicals that are released in order to control or trick us into doing things like eating, scrolling phone all day, texting babe every hour, watching U.S. Office for the billionth time, but it’s in your control, we are the self-aware meta-aminals, or in other words God. We are aware of the drive and we can control it if we try hard enough, not like we should always but we can. It’s a choice you have to make.

Drives basically generate in our limbic systems and other parts of the brain, so drives exists within you whereas power exists in social groups because it’s an abstract concept.

So back to our main question on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s philosophy,

It’s About Drive, It’s About Power?

Yes, if you let it be that, but you have a choice to make your own decisions by recognizing the motives behind your actions, like do I need the car, or is it to impress people? do I need to watch spiderman no way home or is it to fit in? do I need to be mean to this person or is it to make me seem cool to others?

Life could be anything my friend, it’s your choice what you want it to be, you want power? go have it there is nothing wrong with that. Do you want peace? Find it, Do you want to Live? ahh, that’s a tough question to answer maybe another day.
